Often an overlooked vehicle component, the cabin air filter is something that not all vehicle owners may be aware of. The cabin air filter is an important air filter, typically located beneath the glove compartment. The job of this filter is to filter the air from outside as it passes into your vehicle. It helps to catch various things such as dirt, debris, and pollutants along the way.

Since it isn’t visible to the eye, you may have never even replaced your cabin air filter. The question is, does it need to be replaced? And if so, how often?

The cabin air filter will need to be replaced at least a couple of times within your vehicle’s lifetime. How often it needs to be replaced really depends on your local climate and where you drive. If you are constantly off-road, chances are you’ll need to replace the filter much faster than typical.

A good rule of thumb is to have it inspected regularly to see if it needs to be replaced or not. If the cabin air filter is very dirty, it’s definitely recommended to replace it. If your air filter is dirty, the air you are breathing isn’t going to properly filtered and it could have an effect on your health.

This is why replacing your cabin air filter as needed is so important! I mean, look at the dirty filter above. You don’t want to breathe air going through that dirty one, do you?
